Regional Studies Programme (RSP)
Regional Studies Programme (RSP)
About
The Regional Studies Programme (RSP) is a six-year scholarship programme offered only to five secondary schools in Singapore with a seamless progression to three junior colleges, including Victoria Junior College. The main objective of the programme is to nurture a group of students who are conversant in Malay Language and sensitised to the cultural, socio-economic and political developments of the ASEAN countries. Through the learning of Malay Special Programme (MSP) as their third language, this enhances their understanding and experience of cultures in the region. Our RSP students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in authentic settings of the dynamic cultures of our neighbouring countries through experiential learning and activities that are conducted in Singapore or through our biennial overseas exchange trips.
Key Programs / Competitions
Year 1 Regional Studies Programme Cultural Camp
The camp provides Year 1 RSP students with the opportunity to engage meaningfully in Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia through authentic cultural immersion. By collaborating with peers from the 5 RSP schools, students deepen their appreciation of Malay and Indonesian traditions while building strong regional connections in a practical and interactive environment.
Year 3 Regional Studies Programme Talk
The talk is organised for the Sec 3 RSP students from the 5 RSP schools students to enhance and extend the knowledge gained during their Sec 3 Understanding Southeast Asia (USEA) course which covers the culture and belief systems of people in Southeast Asia and how these have shaped the countries’ social, political and economic structures.
Local Enrichment Programmes
At different levels, the students are exposed to the different activities and programmes aligned to the curriculum. These programmes help RSP students deepen their knowledge of Malay language and culture through seminars, workshops, and learning journeys. By exploring the history, politics, and economy of the region, students gain a clearer understanding of the diverse factors that shape Southeast Asia today.
Year 2 & Year 3 Overseas Immersion Trips
The programme provides opportunities for students to immerse themselves in authentic settings through immersion trips to Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. Through interaction, hands-on activities and learning through artifacts, our students are able to comprehend the communities from the perspective / lens of the native speaker beyond Singapore.
