Department Vision:

We aim to cultivate a vibrant arts and design environment that inspires creativity, nurtures expression and shapes innovation through aesthetics, technology and life.

Teaching and Learning Approaches:

Art 🎨 encourages self-expression, technical proficiency, and creative storytelling. Our programme aims to nurture critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the visual arts.

• Inquiry-Based Learning: Students explore and question artistic concepts.

• Differentiated Instruction: Addresses diverse learning needs and interests.

• E-Pedagogy: Utilizes digital tools to enhance creativity and engagement.

Music 🎶inspires creative expression and an appreciation for music from both local and global cultures. Our Lower Secondary Music Curriculum encompasses the following:

• Students develop musical skills through Listening, Creating, and Performing.

• Modules such as songwriting, keyboard, and guitar foster creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, while promoting self-directed learning, intrinsic motivation, and confidence through experiential learning, peer collaboration, and self-reflection.

Design & Technology 🔧 merges design thinking with technical skills to create innovative solutions. Our Lower Secondary Design & Technology (D&T) programme: 

• Focuses on developing cognitive skills and unique abilities in design.

• Guides students to visualize and concretize design solutions for real-world contexts.

Food & Consumer Education 🍳equips students with essential life skills in nutrition, consumer awareness, and sustainable living. Our Lower Secondary Food and Consumer Education (FCE) uses various teaching approaches to create an engaging and meaningful learning experience.

• Inquiry-Based Learning: Encourages students to engage, explore, explain, and apply solutions in authentic contexts.

• Activity-Based Learning: Provides hands-on experiences to foster collaboration and deepen understanding.

• Differentiated Instruction: Ensures that diverse learning needs are met, enabling all students to participate and benefit actively from the curriculum.

Key Programmes:

The Cedar Arts Festival aims to present an array of performances to celebrate our schools’ diversity of culture and its spirit of creativity, excellence & unity. For Cedarians by Cedarians.

The Arts Assembly Programme includes aspects of Performance, Excursion, Talk or Workshop. This 4-year Arts Education programme serves to provide Cedarians the extended learning experiences across all art forms beyond the classroom curriculum.

Beyond Classroom Learning Aesthetics experiences includes the Year 1 Performing Arts-Based Learning, Year 2 Arts experiences e.g. Rhythm Rocks, Mosiac Art, Year 1 Culinary experience and Year 1 Lego Robotics.
